The South Carolina Coast is home to beautiful beaches, historical cities, fresh-off-the-boat seafood, and award-winning golf courses. No matter the season or the occasion, there is something for everyone. 

Whether you are interested in a romantic getaway for two, a family beach vacation, spring break with your friends, or a family reunion… the South Carolina Coast has much to offer. 

Location | The Palmetto State is bordered to the north by North Carolina, to the southeast by the Atlantic Ocean, and to the southwest by Georgia across the Savannah River. The three main cities along the South Carolina Coast are Myrtle Beach, Charleston, and Hilton Head Island. Myrtle Beach and Charleston are roughly 1-hour off of I-95, while Hilton Head Island is an estimated 30-minutes off of I-95. 

Weather | The coastal region of South Carolina has a subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. The summertime temperatures average around 90 degrees, while winter temperatures average around 50 degrees. 

Tourism – What to Expect | During the spring and summer months, there is a large increase in tourism. The weather is perfect for long days on the beach soaking up the sun. December through February tend to draw far less crowds to the coast. Throughout those three months, many tourist attractions and shops will close or cut back on their hours. 

Dive On In | Let’s take a deep dive into the 3 main cities along the South Carolina Coast and see what they have to offer!

Myrtle Beach – Welcome to the Grand Strand | The Grand Strand is a 60-mile stretch of beaches along the Atlantic Ocean. It ranges from Little River all the way down to Georgetown and encompasses all the towns in between, which include Murrells Inlet, Surfside Beach, Garden City, North Myrtle Beach, and Myrtle Beach. 

Myrtle Beach is a golfer’s paradise offering 90 courses and is often referred to as the “Golf Capital of the World.”

Entertainment: Are you looking for dinner and a show, a live band, or a musical variety show? You have endless options! Travel back to 1986 with us when Calvin Gilmore and the Carolina Opry pioneered theater in Myrtle Beach! This began our community’s journey to being a hotspot for live family entertainment. Now our live shows include music, including celebrity concerts and great cover bands, such as dance, comedy, magic, seasonal acts, pirates, and medieval knights.

Dining: With over 2,000 restaurants to choose from, you will not go hungry! Whether you are wanting a mouth-watering steak, fresh seafood, or delicious and affordable American cuisine, you will taste the southern hospitality in every bite.

Attractions: There are quite literally thousands of attractions to choose from when vacationing in Myrtle Beach! From fishing to jet skis, mini golf to championship golf courses, amusement parks to water parks, sporting events, and even an aquarium… the kids can never say they are “bored.” Myrtle Beach has it all!

Charleston | This waterfront city is rich in history and culture, and has an incredible nightlife suited for all ages. With deep southern roots, this historical port city offers charming architecture, exquisite dining, and many family-friendly attractions. 

Entertainment: A city rich with history and culture is bound to offer countless entertainment options for visitors. And Charleston does just that!

Dining: Charleston chefs are regulars on the Food Network and Travel Channel, so you can bet you will find the perfect meal awaiting you around every corner!

Attractions: Spend your day at one of their many parks. Learn about the past on an old plantation. Take in the night life at a pub with live music. Explore historical landmarks, museums, art galleries, weekly markets, and yearly festivals. The list goes on forever when selecting the perfect activity and attraction in Charleston!

Hilton Head Island | Slow down and enjoy the Lowcountry life in Hilton Head, while enjoying the arts, the pristine twelve miles of beach, and an elevated golf experience. When visiting, you are greeted with a laid-back and welcoming vibe like no other. With one of the top ten family beaches in the United States and an abundance of natural beauty, this truly is a magical vacation destination. 

Entertainment: There is much to see when exploring Hilton Head! Enrich yourself with their arts and culture and relax in their laid-back lifestyle. This island provides the ultimate retreat.

Dining: With more than 250 restaurants on Hilton Head Island, plus bakeries, farmers’ markets, and gourmet shops, every palette is sure to find something tasty!
